The other day, I witnessed my two female Bettas have eggs! I couldn't believe it!!! I then thought it may be a male, since some can have an ovipositor and short fins, but we have a male in the tank with the other female! Why did this happen? I'm confused...... :%)

Did you see them embrace like a male does to a female? Otherwise, sometimes females just release eggs for no good reason other than excitement.

Edit from Daniel- Joke inappropriate for the site.

Your bettas weren't actually breeding, just releasing eggs. Sometimes, female fish will 'excite' each other just to get rid of their eggs, if there are no males present. You won't have any fry, because males play a big role in spawning, too.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I agree sometimes females will release her eggs on her own. I have one female who does this constantly. She even built her own bubble nest a couple of weeks ago, and was tending to them like she was the male (check out my post and pic in this forum named "you gotta see this " Just for doubtful minds, I have breeded her before so I am SURE shes a female. Interesting fishies that's for sure!
