Dont use 8, if i was you id do 5 & make it heavily planted. 8 is too risky, the bettas might fight

8 is too much for a 10 gal. tank. Alot of plants is needed & i would use the 10 gal. tank for 4 females or a 20 gal. tank for 8 females.

i would say that you would be alright with five or six, i have 3 in my 5.5. At first they fought so i put a divider in between all of them. I found a great divider for a tank.
They are called plastic needle work grids. i got them at a local hobby store, theyre are the easily cutable, they come in many colors, and since they have holes in them the allow water movement. and they only cost 40 to 50 cents (rather than $6 for a "real"divider).

Go with everyone's advice. Three or four females maximum for a 10g. Those betta babes can get quite chunky. My advice would be to always understock. They will be happier and the 10g would be easier to maintain.

8 will a good number. they will probably fight the first few days, until they get it straight. just plants etc. to add some cover for the milder females.

Chris is the one who would knowbut I still wouldn't go with 8 if you can avoid it3-5 would be a good number, and no matter what plant the tank so the whimpy ones can run and hide from the bulliesand by all means never, ever, ever add ghost shrimp to the tank without having tons of hiding places the girls can't get toI know someone's betta girls went total pig and ate themselves to death

At it's most populated, my 20 gallon long only housed nine betta girls, and I was seeing some nipped fins in there. I wouldn't suggest that many for a ten gallon. Of course, I have other fish in there, but seriously, understock when it comes to betta girls, unless you happen upon a breeder willing to sell off a bunch of siblings. Even then, I'd be wary of fighting.

Also, keep in mind that female bettas are usually bigger than the males. Don't let fin size fool you, every single one of my full grown betta girls outweighs my males. I can show you a full grown female that's HALF the age of my eldest male, and she dwarfs him! (I really should get a picture of that... the two of them going head to head in the same picture... I've got a great divided tank that would work well for that ... hmm...)

You could have 8, but I to wouldn' recommend it. It all depends on the fish really. If you get some nice peacfull girls then it could work out great. Or if you get mean nasty ones you could end up with a tank of dead fish

Well I put 5 in there and they are doing great. They were a little nippy at first but now the get along. I think I might add more because I dont think that my bettas have teritorys they swim where they please and they dont flare at each other.
