Fin Splitting | |
Cowch Fingerling Posts: 41 Kudos: 29 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Sep-2005 | I noticed yesterday that my Betta's tale has split down the middle. It occured rather suddenly. Is this normal? He has really big fins compared to a lot of Bettas I've seen. That is why I bought him. Right now he lives in a ten gallon tank with four cories. |

Everything is fairly small though so there is still quite a bit of open area. The Betta's tail is a veil, I guess. The end is very flat and straight. |

I don't even like to use many types of regular aquarium gravel because they can rip their fins on that. Even though Bettas are agressive with other Bettas, they can be a bit timid in some community tanks, so make sure that no other fish are bullying it. I'm not sure what other fish you have, so that may or may not be the case. Just make sure that everything in your tank is Betta friendly, nothing sharp. Make sure he doesn't have any wounds that could get infected, either. Sometimes a small fin tear can escalate into something worse if you don't keep an eye on it. Good luck |
