First time THIS has happened to me..... | |

I carefully removed my "hidey" hole decorations.. picking each up gingerly, carefully letting the water to escape and then partially re-filling and letting the water trickle out again.. I do this because I know some of my Bettas like to hide, and I want to make sure none of them are trapped.... After all the decorations were removed, I did my usual "head count".... Couldn't find my LOVELY MG blue/yellow female!!!! Looked high and low! Gently moved some of the gravel around to see if she had buried herself somewhere - and still nothing! I finally assumed that something bad had happened to her... and was greatly saddened.... Decided I'd better get on with things - picked up the bucket where I'd placed my decorations intending to give them their weekly scrub.... Lo and behold! Something MOVED rapidly around the bottom of my bucket!!!! Yep! You guessed it! My adorable MG female!!!! I'm not sure how she managed it, but somehow she must have stayed way up inside of one of the decorations -- even lasting through my secondary rinse out!!!! What a gal! Luckily, my experience turned out well --- But I did want to warn others.... So now that there is no reason for me to worry, I'd better get back to the tank cleaning! You all have a wonderful day! Because of their different personalities..... Some of my ladies are quite brazen -- CONSTANTLY swimming about in clear view.... Then I have those females which spend part of their time in sight and part of their time in the hidey holes.... And lastly, I have those VERY shy girls who are very rarely seen!!! (I worry about these because they don't eat like the others and stay quite a bit smaller as a result....) But I do want to thank you for your suggestion of Saran Wrap - and intend to use it in my centerpiece decoration -- because I believe it has too much height in which the Bettas can hide... Thanks so much! To thine own self be true... |
