My LFS was selling crown tail(?) bettas for $2 because they thought that they had been sent a batch of bettas that were damaged from fighting. The regular bettas (Veil tail?) were almost $4.] I got the last one. Did I get a good price?I just thought he looked cool. I didn't find out till later that he was a differnt type of betta.

Yes. At the LFS where I work, we get crowntails from a pretty good breeder, and they go for 7.99. Most chain stores do not charge more for fancy tailed bettas, half the time because they dont realize, and half the time because they get them in by accident, or so I've found.

Like Theresa said, as long as you like the fish, and he's not in terrible condition, then you got a good deal.

Got pics?

As long as your fish is healthy, then your store lost some money on those bettas. Around here, crowntails are at least six dollars, depending on the store.

Frankly, I'd be a bit concerned about a lfs that doesn't know what a Crowntail is.... I could understand it better at a department store like Wal Mart... but an actual fish store?????

Even if they were sent there by mistake --- wouldn't/shouldn't somebody have some Betta knowledge? Especially, since Bettas are generally a very popular fish!

As far the price of $2.00..... I'd say that was a good price for any Betta..... Especially the very healthy and in good shape!

Good find!

if u know a wholesaler like i do they really don't care about if the betta is a crown tail, double tail, delta,viel,short,etc.. i get all of my bettas a .50 each and that is the price that store get them at. really i don't think that many people really care about there tails in the pet shop. to them a betta is a fish that has a adverage price range of female-1.99 to 6.99 and males starting from 3.49-7.99. there are some flaws. some of the smaller pet chains do realize that some bettas that they get at wholesale <.50 such as short tails will realize that they aren't like the reg veil tails that they see so they charge around 7$. 7$ is the common price for "rare" bettas that store see uncommonly. some stores do have good prices such as a petland i go to that sells yound deltas-halfmoon at 4.99 each. When i get my bettas atwhole sale they are in hundreds of little bags in boxes straight from Asia or where ever and u pcik what you want. what my point is that overall everyone gets ripped off know matter how you look at it, but you can get lucky and find a nice store that does have reasonable price.
