CL are small at the moment (3 inches max) and i plan to get rid of the IDs soon (bought them in my days of ignorance )... Does betta go along with gouramis?? and who could answer my betta questions better than bettachris appreciated |

My friend kept 2 with a betta, they fought My ex kept 2 with a betta, the gouramis died I saw a male betta chasing a larger gouramis around a 20 long And other situations So in the interest of the fish, dont put them together |

mughal113 Big Fish Posts: 343 Kudos: 160 Votes: 64 Registered: 16-Jun-2006 | well here's an update. the betta managed to jump out of the breeder into the tank (this is another thing ive learned, they CAN jump). In the morning i was shocked to find the breeder empty. However, to my relief, i found that poor creature hiding behind the sword plants. No fin damage observed luckily. I'm gonna cover the box and keep him in there, separate. He seems to be doing well though...readily eating the blood worms and has already started making foam of bubbles on the still water surface of the breeder it also flares at the fish passing by, so putting up a nice display so far.... bettas are really wonderful creatures.. |

mughal113 Big Fish Posts: 343 Kudos: 160 Votes: 64 Registered: 16-Jun-2006 | and only after five days i had bought it, my first betta passed away when i left for work in the morning, it was all good..flaring and eating the blood worms but when i returned, it was suspended still in water... dont know what went wrong...as i already mentioned, i had placed it in a breeder box in an established 50g. the breeder has openings allowing for water movement in and out of the box. may be its the blood worms... the LFS guy told me that water has to be perfectly still, as in a jar..could it be the water movement through the box? (well, i seriously doubt it) im soooo dishearted...wanna be absolutely sure before im going to get the next one |

He could have been sick when you first got him, or infection from the bites, internal paracites? its impossible to tell without a pic, but i'm sure you have disposed of the body already.. |

mughal113 Big Fish Posts: 343 Kudos: 160 Votes: 64 Registered: 16-Jun-2006 | now im more than sure that the bloodworms caused it...i never saw him poo...i actually read from a website that bloodworms are the best food for them..they wudn't even look at the pellets...wrong info i'll get the other one when my 5g fry tank gets free..its currently housing white molly fry which should be big enough to be given away in a couple of weeks... looking forward to my next experience with the fighter.. and by the way, does it mean that they really hate moving water?? |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | well it depends on the type of bloodworms, frozen bloodworms, or FD bloodworms. i know that FD bloodworms aren't a good every day food, but frozen blood worms should be good for 1 every other day. anyway, like katie stated, pellets are probably the way to go. |

mughal113 Big Fish Posts: 343 Kudos: 160 Votes: 64 Registered: 16-Jun-2006 | i couldnt wait and ive got my second betta...for the time being, im keeping it in the same breeder box and changed its orientation to allow minimum water flow through it... its been a day and a half and everything's going fine so far...yes, i was feeding FD bloodworms to the first one (RIP) but now, only pellets... i love the way it flares when the red neon gouramis pass by its territory (the box, of course) hope this time all goes ok |
