Gourami-will it work? | |
Thursday Fingerling Posts: 46 Kudos: 32 Votes: 4 Registered: 15-Jan-2006 | I have a 10 gal (Just changed from a 3) that now contains a ADF and 4 guppies. (1 Female, 3 1 month old fry) I want to eventually get a otto, but I don't need it yet. I was thinking for another tankmate, and I was wondering about 2 Dwarf gouramies. Would 2 be enough? Or would it be too crowded? I know that you should have a ratio of 1 inch of fish per gallon of water, and I'm researching Dwarf Gouramies right now. If pets are so stupid, how did they weasel free room and board out of us? |

DG aren't really that small, and two in a small tank with other fishes wont work. i would get an otto, and 1 DG, but would consider moving the guppies to a larger tank, or back to a lfs. also the 1 inch per gallon rule i dont like. it is very general and is outdated, so i wouldn't follow that. for example a 10 inch fish can't fit into a 10 gallon tank, etc.... |

There's a chance your female guppy will give birth again. Gouramis are fry-eaters if that matters towards your decicion. As far as the oto, they definitely do better with company of their own kind. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Mine beat each other up in a 55g so in a 10g chances are pretty high you'll only be able to keep 1. Females also have very little color so they aren't often sold by stores or desired by fish keepers. |

Very pretty, especially if your tank is planted. You could probably have 2 or 3 in your tank; again if you're not concerned about fry being eaten. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Also Oto's like to stay in schools & i don't recommend getting only 1. Small tanks are quite difficult to keep, with good water parameters. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |
