SO my 50g gourami tank goes like
one giant gourami (5" ), one blue opaline, a pair each of platinum, snakeskin and red flame dwarf gouramis. Plus one pleco...ive removed the sharks and CLs. Am i still overstocked?

I think that giant gourami's get preatty big. the profile for it on this site says that it reaches I think 27 inches? If so your tank is oversticked.

There's a Colisia called the giant gourami...and it's maximum size is about 4-5" TL. If that's what you have, you're fine. If you have a true gourami...it gets really, really big. Those are not too common in the LFSs though.

We still need to decide if we have one of these:

http://www.fish2u.com/giantgourami.html

Or one of these:
http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/e_Osphronemus_goramy.php

The first fish is what has traditionally been called a giant gourami because it was a giant of the Colisa family. The later is a true gourami, but these days folks are calling them giant gouramis, too, which confuses things.

Ack! That answer it...with that fish alone you're overstocked...it will create a massive bioload and not have sufficient swimming room.

Otherwise, I think your tank is fine and will be quite active without the big fellow.
