Unless they're all females or you get a larger tank, the gourami's may be a bit nippy toward each other. The opaline and gold gourami are both color morphs of the blue gourami which has a reputation of being a Jekyll-Hyde fish with some being very friendly in a community atmosphere and others being highly assertive even in cichlid tanks. I found my gold gourami in a tank full of convicts and oscars when I bought her, but she did well in my community tanks with very little aggression. That's just an example of how variable a personality that species can have. Have you considered a pair or harem (one male:2-3 females) of dwarf gourami's instead (Colisa sp.). |

I would stay away from them in such a small tank. The risk of serious agression is there, and they can all grow rather large. Instead, I recommend going with just one pearl gourami, or even better, several honey gouramis. The reason I suggest honey gouramis is that they stay small (1.5-2 inches) and they can be kept together without real problems. If you have the honeys/single pearl, a nice school or rasboras, and an upside-down catfish or two, it would be a nice tank. Stay away from pictus because they grow big for your tank, and they will swallow anything that'll fit in their mouth! |
