Gouramis.. | |
divertran Fish Addict Posts: 784 Kudos: 469 Votes: 165 Registered: 14-Nov-2004 | the blue dwarf gouramis are all just variations of the same species, as the goldens and such. The nice pretty brightly colored gouramis you find at petsmart however are also all male. Females are very difficult to find, as the colring is much more drab and grey-ish. Due to this non-vibrant coloration they do not sell well and are not carried by most fish stores. |

Despite what they say though, it is probably not a pearl and most definitely not a snakeskin. I guess there is a small chance it could be a pearl/blue mix, although I think that a blue/gold mix makes more sense. |

[link=http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=a6767896663c342d699941a341d3d983&showtopic=65321&pid=553869&st=0&#entry553869]http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?s=a6767896663c342d699941a341d3d983&showtopic=65321&pid=553869&st=0&#entry553869" style="COLOR: #C00000[/link] A few sites say they are a cross between gold and blue and others say a pearl x blue cross. They didn't have opalines when I was ready to add my gourami so I got a blue male. Now that he's moving to the 90g I was going to get him an opaline girlfriend. |

I believe (as I don't recall exactly), that they had the same scientific name as the regular blue making them another color variation. Anyone else ever come across these? They were kind of bland looking.. not a lot of color. Would be interesting to see how they look as they mature. For the record, of the ones you can get at Petsmart.. the Opaline is my favorite. My male is the king of my 75G even though he's not my centerpiece fish. |

My favorite though are opalines. Here's a nice picture http://www.thegoldfishbowl.co.uk/atlas/a-belo-216.jpg Last edited by sham at 26-Jul-2005 19:19 |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | and for the record, the platinum gourami is another species entirely, not a blue variation. Then why does it not only look the same but when I search it up all the sites have the same scientific name as the blue gourami in the profile on here? |

Here's the profile for the [link=blue gourami]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bluegourami.xm Take a look at the [link=profile search]http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/fishfinder.asp?key=gourami&salinity=&family=&geographic=&ecosystem=&temperament=&diet=&size=&waterregion=&lifestyle=" style="COLOR: #00A0AE[/link] I did for gouramis... you'll probably find the fish you're looking for, laynlex. ~Meow. How's that math thing working out for you? But isn't the crosby the same as the golden? An there is also a 2 spot variation. Is that what you mean by reg.? ...and for the record, the platinum gourami is another species entirely, not a blue variation. |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | Usually as mentioned various color varieties of the 3 spot/blue gourami which gets about 5" and the dwarf gourami ~3". I've seen 3 spot gouramis in opaline, pearl, blue, gold, platinum... The dwarf in sunset, coral blue, powder blue, flame... Other slightly less common gouramis at nearby stores would be snakeskin, moonlight, and kissing gouramis. |
