Well, I had to run out to get meds for my betta girl and happened to have to walk by the betta display at Petco... I've NEVER seen anything more than the rare combtail at petco (just veiltails), but I think I've found something a bit special.

Not quite sure what you'd call him, maybe delta? When he flares out his tail, it doesn't droop like a veil, rather looks like one of those chinese folding fans... I know it's not halfmoon, but the same flare with the outside rays being equally long, etc. Anyway, with his striking coloration and nifty tail, I had to pick him up. Nevermind that I'm rather broke and without a place to put him. (Well, I have the extra tanks, but no extra heater...)

Anyway, I brought him home and on the way, figured it out... if he wasn't terribly aggressive (and I'd put him up against several other bettas in the store without him getting too hostile), I'd put him in my guppy girl tank. He did chase after the guppies for a few minutes, but settled in after a few minutes. The filter runs pretty gently on that tank and he actually seemed to enjoy the bubbler, so... well, looks like it will work.

He's a pretty one...

I'm thinking of calling him Feather or something along those lines... in the second picture, if you'll look at his dorsil fin, you can kind of see the markings that inspire this. The white fades into transparent with a wispy pattern that reminds me of a feather. However, the first picture is more true to color. Not quite sure why he went green-ish in the second pic.

So, anyway, I figure he'll stay with the guppy girls for now. If things don't work out, I have a lil betta girl (rather timid and still trying to figure things out) that I rescued this week, as well. When she gets bigger and hopefully more sure of herself, she could trade places with "Feather."

It is funny how they just jump in your pocket and follow you home It happens to me all the time. He is beautiful Kitten. I wouldn't be able to resist him either.

That's what I keep telling people who go, "You got ANOTHER one?!"

Actually, I've dedicated this as the dog's fish... Lucy's an english cocker spaniel, so she's rather close to the ground and likes to look into the ten gallon (which is on the bottom of a double stand, so it's just at her height). Feather makes a nice centerpiece for the tank and makes it a bit more lively, as the guppies weren't being as active without their danio buddies (who were moved to another tank).

So, really... *I* don't have another betta... I'm just... taking care of it for the dog! Riiiiiight...
