Vette was actually the one of the cheapest... $3.49 at my local Wal Mart... BUT he wasn't exactly in this shape when he was purchased... (And to be blunt, he's actually better looking than pictured -- Still haven't gotten the hang of taking digital pictures!)... Got him back in September, and at the time it was kind of a "rescue" -- His coloring was way off -- kind of pale, and he was pretty listless in his little cup -- but there was just something about him... Now he's filling out, his coloring has developed into a VERY bright, vibrant red and he's quite active --- He must be happy with me!
My girls primarily came from Jack's Aquarium @ $3.49 a piece, a couple from Wal Mart again @ $3.49, the Crowntails were more expensive - $9.75 plus shipping from AquariumFish.net, and several came as "freebies" from my favorite seller, Paul @ BiloxiBettas.com.....
Blue too came from Paul - just wish I'd really been able to capture his magnificent coloring better than I did! Blue - named for the Michigan Team - is actually a Blue & Yellow MG.... And you should see him in person! The blue on his fins dazzles amid the yellow! He is SPECTACULAR! Can't really remember the exact cost -- but I know it wasn't much -- even including the shipping! At the time I purchased Blue, it was still warm enough to go Priority Mail.... (All I can tell you is that I'm to receive 6 male Bettas today from Paul, and even with the heat packs since the colder weather has arrived and Express shipping cost the total is only $40.00!!!! So that only averages out to a little under $7.00 a piece!)
Probably won't post any additional pictures until I improve my picture taking skills --- But have to admit, I enjoyed showing them off! I love all my fish - but Bettas are definitely one of my all time favorites!

Bettas seem annoying to me now, because the one in my 10gal killed my juvenile platies and was chasing my ottos!! I though they were supposed to be peacefull to other community fish! Also, they have ugly mouths, lol. But they DO have pretty colors and fins.

fishnewbie... I don't want to appear that I'm pointing a finger... BUT.... You shouldn't hold something against a Betta that's in his nature to do!!!! While I do feel sorry for your loss --- it's simply a matter of nature taking it's course... The one thing I've learned about fishkeeping is that you're ALWAYS learning!!!!! Mistakes are made -- and knowledge is gained.... Some mistakes are rougher than others... And sometimes it's not an actual mistake -- but just the personalities of the fish involved...
If your Betta is truly killing and harassing the other fish --- Remove the Betta... Place him in his own tank, bowl or vase..... Once the "problems" have been solved, I think you'll find that Bettas are something really special!

Bettas are definetly individuals! Some might be fine with other fish , some will not. I would remove that betta or swap him for a different one.

Beautiful bettas, that CT female is gorgeous. I have to say my betta thats living in my 10 gallon with a guppy and (juvenile) pygmy cories is the biggest wuss, he even lets the guppy push him around(who is like 1/3 his size). fishnewbie, i am sorry to hear that you got the antisocial end of the betta personalities.

I would like to get a new betta as i just lost my old man betta this morning!!! i'm deeply upset as he was special to me, he won't be there to greet me in the mornings when i'm shaking the bloodworm tub at him :-(

My betta was white all over and then he had purple markings in a heart shape in his tail area.

I'm gutted.
