Honey Gourami | |
fairynr Hobbyist Posts: 90 Kudos: 81 Votes: 4 Registered: 10-May-2005 | Hey guys! I'm thinking about getting a pair of honey gouramis for my 10 gal. It will be with three emerald corries and a VERY gentle betta. Has anyone had any expieriences with these fish? My tank is very well planted(plenty of hiding spots!)and has somewhat gentle current. I'm getting them on friday, I think I'm soooo excited!!! Last edited by fairynr at 31-May-2005 16:40 |

Your betta seems very peaceful, which is a good sign, but I would keep a very close eye. I had a betta who was also very peaceful in my 75g tank with a pair of dwarf gouramis, and one day when I was out the betta and the dominant of the 2 dwarf gouramis got into a big fight - neither one survived the ordeal. Be wary mixing them and be prepared to return the gouramis if the betta shows any aggression at all. Remember, a betta has a jaw strength size for size as powerful as that as a great white shark. It could easily kill your gouramis. Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

I have a non-breeding pair in my 20g Asian biotope, which includes sparkling gouramis and a betta coccina. While there isn't any physical agression they are definitely the king & queen of the tank and let the other fish know it. I'd be concerned in a 10g about hiding places for the betta. Keep us posted how it goes for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

I'll keep a close eye on my betta(but he's been attacked by tetras before!)There are sevral plants, and one extremely lush one. Plus I have a sepprate bowl for the betta, so if things get out of hand, I can sepparate him!Friday looks like the day....My LFS hasn't had many honeys coming in!(I wanted to wait for a new stock). Keep a good eye on them & remove the Betta if you see any sign of aggression. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

When I first introduced him, he went confidently out and ignored the betta. I put some food in at the same time, so the Betta was preocupied. After, the betta chased the honey around alittle, but soon lost intrest and left him alone. No harm was done(the betta didn't even touch the gourami). There was only one gourami when I bought it, so I'm going to get a female wednessday or thursday. This will probably even out the odds alittle, but as I said, noting bad is happening. I supprised at how well the little honey is acclimating to my tank, and am very happy^^ Thanks for all your help, guys!/:' |
