Im going to split my 20g long into different compartments for bettas. How many different bettas could I keep. Im thinking about 4 so each compartment would be about 7.5". Also should I make a separate compartment that runs along the back for the heater and filter.

You could easily go with the 4 like you've suggested or as many at 10 (I think that is what Stormy did) It really depends on how much work you are planning on and how you are planning on doing this, and how much time are you willing to spend...

I did mine with a 10 gallon and plastic canvas, fishing line, and time

You don't need to make a seperate area for your heater and filtration, only if you want to...just make that section a bit larger, and you'll do fine...

The only thing to make sure of for the heater and filter is that your dividers are such that they let water flow through them freely.

Here's a link to Stormy's setup.

shared water or no shared water?

here is my setup. shared water, minimal flow-through, heater in once compartment, about 0.5*C difference throughout the entire tank.

(This is the tank o' death though, one bad bug and everything died, and again, and again!)

If you want good flow-through, install a UGF under the dividers.

I kept one male per compartment, and 4 females in one compartment. [/font]

I love those adorable shishie nametags.

I've had a divided tank before. I siliconed plastic canvas in. Unfortunately silicone doesnt go well with acrylic tanks.
