How can my Betta beat the heat? | |
Desdinova Hobbyist Posts: 56 Kudos: 98 Votes: 2 Registered: 23-Aug-2004 | i have a male betta in a 2.5g minibow tank, with filter(set on low so there is very little water agitation) and a 15w light in the hood. The tank is in my son's room on the second floor of our house. This floor stays about five degrees warmer than the rest of the house. I bought those little thermometers you stick on the outside of the tank. The readings are consistently maxed at 85f/30c. First is this too warm for a male betta. Second, if so then do you think a lower wattage bulb will make a difference(at night it drops to a safer 25c)? Finally, I can move the tank to the ba [span class="edited"][Edited by Desdinova 2004-08-27 19:47][/span] [span class="edited"][Edited by Desdinova 2004-08-27 19:48][/span] |

Bettas require a stable, warm tank temperature between 76-82 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature should not vary more than a degree or two from night to day. It is important to keep your betta warm enough; otherwise you may find that your betta becomes lethargic and e to illness. As long as your in that range you should be fine. |

And to retain heat at night, insulate the tank a bit at the back if you can. |

He seems more active and happier with it on. The higher temp doesnt seem to bother them, it just worries me. right noe the temp at night is perfect, right around 23, maybe 24c. But, I'll remember the insulation trick come a few months. thanks, -greg |
