How long to Bettas live? | |

That may explain the difference in life spans. |

These fish have short lifespans, and do not typically live for as long as even the lowly neon tetra does! And, as mentioned above, bettas are often about a year old by the time they hit stores. The reason for this is purely economical. Breeders (or distributors, or whoever) let the bettas age before selling/shipping them so that their fins have had time to grow out. This makes them (especially the males) look more attractive to the potential buyer, ensuring that more bettas are sold. |
