Hubby to the rescue! | |
TigerAngel Fish Addict Posts: 522 Registered: 22-Feb-2004 | Well, today I had to go to my LFS to purchase another Nitrite kit, and as always I look into these tempting tanks of theirs. Wow what a beautiful little betta. Now I told myself, No, you can not have him. No, you lost too many last year. No, they are too fragile. No you are broke, have no money. So I went home without him. BUT hubby came to the rescue and brought him for me. Along with 3 "Long Fin Bronze Cory's." Is'nt my hubby a darling?. |

TigerAngel Fish Addict Posts: 522 Registered: 22-Feb-2004 | Thanks again. He is beautiful and he has personality plus. I was worried at first about putting him into his new home. His home is a 67gal (4 foot) tank, with Tiger Barbs, Catfish, Albino Rainbow Shark and clownies etc (see profile) but he is getting on just great. There is NO aggression at all. At first he was a bit scared, after all it probably be the first time he seen different species of fish. At feed time, the Mollys come bolting over to the hand (we feed all the fish my hand, only ones that don't come to the hand is: catfish and the Glow-lites. Although I feed my BN and Synodontis eupterus my hand )anyway the Mollys come bolting over and his eyes nearly popped out of his head but they didn't hurt him. Just a little rough like Mollys normally are at feed time. Day 2, and he is pushing his way into the hand, just like the Mollys do. When we feed our fish, exspecially the Mollys, afterwards we play games with them. Like, we leave our hands in the water, and the Mollys will swim into the hand, we then close our hand and the Mollys love to squeeze through our fingers, then come back into the hand, where we then lift the hand a little bit out of the water, they then jump off and dive back into the water. We put our hands back in the water and they jump back onto the hand to do it all over again. They just love the attention. Anyway today when I was playing with the Mollys, "Buddy the Betta" was doing it too. It was soo cool.] Another thing our Mollys do is when you put your hands into the water, they will come and nibble your fingers. Now Buddy is doing that as well. He is a but rough though. When I walk around the tank, I look in and "Buddy is swimming along side of me trying to keep up. He is like a little puppy. He is truly our little Buddy***Tiger. I didn't know people fought bettas for fun...it sounds so cruel.. I know its in Thailand, but still. It's like fighting dogs, cruel and unusual. Anyone have any other comments about this? Sam |

smantzer Big Fish Posts: 378 Kudos: 347 Votes: 10 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 | Well, sxp, that's how bettas came about as popular. They started off being fought in thailand. In the old day, people'd bet tons of money on the fights, or even family (jeeze, glad times have changed). It was so popular that one of the kings/emperors/whatever started putting taxes on the bets ....but I think betta fighting is a thing of the past, and now that we know so much about animal welfare, we should know well enough to not condone it. TigerAngel Fish Addict Posts: 522 Registered: 22-Feb-2004 | Callatya, That pic didn't do him any justice as it was just when I brought him home and he was still stressed out abit. Also the flash of the camera didn't help matters. When I brought him home all his fins where transplanted. My hubby was so shock that he lost all of its colour. But I said "Wait till he settles down, his colour will come back", and it did. This is a close up of his tail. TigerAngel attached this image: Last edited by TigerAngel at 28-Feb-2005 22:39[/font] |
