They do tend to, but females also have rounded fins, whereas male gourami dorsal fins have pointed tips. Again, it is difficult to tell from the photo, but the fin does not look pointed to me. I have seen quite a few female blue gouramis with somewhat long fins, but they are still all rounded off at the tip.

I do agree with HCA. It seems to be a male three spot gourami. Females tend to have smaller fins than males

Looks like some type of "blue" gourami, Trichogaster trichopterus. There are many color variations of this fish, and it looks like you have a blue one tinged with a bit of gold.

For sex, that's a little tougher to tell. I wish there was a good close-up picture of the dorsal fin, since that's the most telling difference between genders here. I'm going to say female, but again, it's a little hard to see.

Hope that helps you out, and welcome to Fish Profiles!

It is a golden gourami, here is the fishprofiles link. http://fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bluegourami.xml
It appears to be a female, because of the rounded dorsal fin, but it may be hard to tell at a young age.

Looking at the pics, it's hard to tell the sex of your gourami. Breed is easy though. It's a gold/blue/opaline/3 spot/2 spot... they're all one in the same, just color morphs. Try getting a closet, cleaner shot of the dorsal fin and we'll see what we can do

Well in any of our tanks we would call it dead.

You do know you posted in the Marine thread right?

Maybe a mod can Threadapult this over to the FW section
