What kind of pellets are you using? Try hikari if you haven't... those are the best, and seemingly the best received foods. Try a variety of foods. Don't go to freeze dried blood worms except for a last resort... don't want him stuck on those! However, if you have to, try them, I don't know of a betta that can resist them!

They should really go no more than a week without food, so try this... attempt other foods for six days, then feed the FD bloodworms... then attempt other foods again... unless you can get him to accept a pellet first!

I hope

~Update~
I changed to dark pebbles, ranging from 2cm to 4cm in size

While I was trying to take him out of the tank he jumped I put him back in & I hope he pulls through

I've also decided to call him Nate :88)

nb Its good to hear from you again

Of course you want pics sis.. I really need to figure out how to use this camera

Well, today I went to "The mall" & asked what the pet shop fed thier bettas, the lady there showed me 2 products, some kind of pellet & freeze dried bloodworms. I chose the bloodworms. He seems to sort-of eat them.. I think he's scared of of them (meh, if I didn't know any better I would probably be too )

I also bought a nifty little shell

oh dude, (i finally made it this far to post) you've been bittenjust watch the fingers

I'd go and divide the little five gallon up 2/3 girls, 1/3 boy...and you should be fine...really easy if you can't find a premade divider, just make one from plastic canvas, you'll find it in a craft store

By the way we want to see pictures of him

Just a word of advice on the size stones you put in his tank. Last year, I lost a betta, in a freak accident, when he got his head caught in the rocks I used for his tank. It never occured to me that he could get stuck like that, but he did. If you are going to use rocks / stones, keep them on the smallish side. I would hate to see anyone else loose their fish this way.
Good luck with your new betta -- sounds beautiful!

biogold is good, but i found that tetramin color bits are my favorite. good for color, and making them very fat. it may be to large for non adult bettas though. but have a very good filter, b/c i have found it to be messy, and make them poop alot more.

Some people have been bitten by the betta bug, others the cory bug & even the tiger barb bug... But me... I've just been bitten by betta bug

Today I went to "the mall" & fell in love with a betta . When I left the shop to go look for a cheap plastic tank from a cheap "2 dollar shop" kinda store, I almost cried when I left him . (Heh im a wuss )
I think I remember the lady saying it was a "Pearl scale" or something, It just looks like a pinkish opaque to me . I'll try to take some pics once he's settled in more (This makes a total of 3 bettas )

But, I have a problem... I only have a 0.5 gal / 1.7 litre tank for him. He seems to be doing fine atm but I dunno...
(But I must say its better than what he was being kept in before )

Can you please help me
thanx

plastic canvas from Spotlight, about $4 a sheet

2L coke bottle will work in a pinch very versatile thing coke bottles

hmmm, that sounds pretty easy.. But it sounds a lil bit small lol... Could I keep him in the container he's in atm & flip it upside down & put it in the tank? Or is a coke bottle bigger lol?
What are other cheap & easy ways of dividing tanks? Would getting some artist canvas & shoving it in the tank work?

thanx (from what I can see he isnt sick..)

splitting it sounds fine, but i'd quarrantine him first. cut the top off a coke bottle and flat that in there, that way you can see him but he will be in separate water in case he is sick

I didn't mean to buy him.. maybe I shouldnt have

I think I should put him in my 5g, what would be best? A breeding net? I don't really want to put him in one though, I want to actually be able to see him

what should I do

(I have 2 female bettas in the tank & I don't want to breed)

or should I split the tank into 2 parts? 3/4 female 1/4 male? (one gal for him & 4 gal for females)

i think i was bit by the betta bug 10 years ago when i was 5-6. it is fine. it seems like you have the intentions to move it into a larger tank, so it is fine for the time being.

Yeah, I looked at the thermometer this morning & it was down to 18*C , maybe I'll find a blanket for the tank during the night & see what difference that makes...

its bearable, but it isn't ideal. you are going to have to find a way to heat him as i guarantee it drops about 2-6* between 2am and 6am.
