I don't think I'm going to get a betta and put it in a tank now that I've thought about it. Thanks for the help though bettachris. |

A betta's individual personality does affect what fish can be kept with them, but my experience shows that they will tolerate other fish well. Basically, the best tankmates for bettas are small fish that will not harass them or nip at their fins, as bettas aren't as aggressive as they are reputed to be. The two bettas I've kept were just fine in community tanks, and did not attack their fellow fish. Last edited by sirbooks at 08-Feb-2005 20:49 |

Of course, depends on the size tank you're looking at... maybe a ten gallon with a betta and a school of six of the smaller cories? ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Maybe a school would be left alone, but I saw it happen. It really does depend on the betta. And the only way to find out is to try. -Dennis |

I used to have a number of bettas in a 6ft tank.. with Gouramies..Blue/Opaline/Dwarf, Cories,Ottos,Plecos,Loaches,Guppies,African Butterfly Fish..been awhile..forget what else..but I have about 6 female bettas and would switch out males..1 at a time (from their individual little bowls/tanks).. only had 2 males that were 2 aggressive to go in.and one male that was too SHY ..he hated being in a big tank. But the rest did fine. Not as outgoing as females, though. Betta personalities vary so much though.. just depends on the individual what they can go with. |
