In memory of Lil Flip | |
Bellydancer Fingerling Posts: 31 Kudos: 21 Votes: 0 Registered: 08-Sep-2004 | My first betta was named Lil Flip. He was a red veil tail. Unfortunately, he was only with me for three months- I got him from a pet store, and let's face it- I had no previous experience. Anyway, it's because of him that I fell in love with bettas. I have two males now, and because of Flip, I am able to care for them so much better. Flip really was a great teacher. I would love it if you shared your stories about a special betta [span class="edited"][Edited by Bellydancer 2004-09-09 12:37][/span] |

When I first got into bettas, my first one died a few days later from fungus, brought him back to the store, exchange, another one died of fungus after two days, so i thought i would try again but this time with treatment. STILL died. I didn't get back into bettas until about a year and a half later. Now I have three and going to expand soon. |

I don't keep any bettas but I do keep a female gold gourami, her name is Goldie. She does have a story though ! She was attacked not long ago by a tankmate and I thought she wouldn't make it. She had sore looking red marks and fungus on top of her wounds, stopped eating, and lost one of her feelers.. She is not only recovering but I just discovered today that her feeler is actually growing back, it's at least 2 inches long already ! Wow that's nice to come home and discover It's weird I've lost a few fish lately so to have one recover, and regenerate a 'lost limb' is very nice and gives me hope.. When she had the fungus I treated with an underdose of fungus med and full dose melafix. Then when her appetite got better, lots of freeze-dried bloodworms to get her strength up.. The Amazon Nut... |

My youngest son actually picked him out on his birthday last year. He also named him after his imaginary friend. After about 8 years I got back into the hobby, thinking I was very well educated on it. I soon found out otherwise. Me and my wife had gotten 2 male Bettas right off the bat. Also got suckered into the looks of one of those 2.5 gal. mini-bow aquarium. Not that I think there bad but they neglect to tell you that Bettas flaring at each other 24/7 are bound to get stressed out. Also you would think that an aqarium maker would give you a divider that they could not see through. But me as the owner should have researched a little more into what I thought I knew and what I was told. (Finding FP.com a little sooner would have been nice)So before long both Betta fell ill and before long were no longer with us. It is a tough lesson to learn but the one thing that can come out of it.....is that a responsible, caring hobbyist comes out of it educated and ready to care for their fish as they should. So one by one....every fish will live the kind of life they all should. Don't mean to be so sappy but it's trueGood luck!! |
