Well, I've decided I'm cursed

I was feeding my Bettas last night, I got to my new Turq Delta & dropped his food in. He spotted it & wheeled around, catching sight of the end of his tail in the process. Well, he latched onto it, flicked & pulled, & Bingo! Instant Double Tail.. He tore it straight down the centre all the way to the base!

Needless to say I was furious ]:|. If he'd been a puppy he would've copped a rolled up magazine on the nose!!! As it was I woke my mum up yelling at the lil bugger

Just thought I'd share.... and vent ]:|]:|]:|

Looks like whatever you are feeding it isn't enough!]

Never heard of a fish munching itself before..... something I hope is a one-off and not the norm.

I have a crown tail that is constantly eating his fins, and I feed him 2-3 times a day - that little piggy!!
At first I thought it was fin rot, but it's way too irregular and I then caught the little bugger eating it with much gusto! *shakes head*

One of my bettas had the same thing happen. Actually, I just woke up one day and his tail was split from base to tip, I don't think he munched on it. However, I added a bit of melafix and within a few days he was good as new. Yay for melafix.

Funny, but a little concerning! I have one who used to chase his own tail and eat it until it was too short to catch. I thought it was finrot too, until I saw him chew on teh healing bits again! I think he was bored of his environment. I threw him into a tank with lots of guppies, and now he chases those instead of his own tail. The good news is, the tail grew back without any problems.
