I've had my betta Geezer for about 2 and 1/2 years now. I just recently moved him out of his 2.5 gallon tank to make room for some neons that were being q-tined. He is now living in a 2 liter pepsi bottle.
Recently he has taken to the habit of floating vertically with his head pointed up. I've noticed that he is breathing slowly. I'll move the bottle and he will perk up again. I've also noticed that his color has changed. While his tail used to be red and green, it is now a rusty purple color.

im not really sure my ma didnt do anything cause she is kinda careless when it comes to fish.

I heard salt works for some types of fish and some diseases they get.

not sure how it would affect the beta though and if it's dying cause of old age well, you will just have to let him pass on

Sorry for your loss. I sometimes think that with the older bettas it is best not to stress them out by making changes in their living conditions, but sometimes that can't be helped.

I'm sorry dj for your loss...as leslie said, the older the bettas, and any older fish, it is best to leave them where they are most comfortable if possible
