Well, another betta followed me home

I was having a look at the female bettas and there was a really bright blue one that the others were chasing. It's still small, but it's tail wasn't nipped like the others. It was such a cutie that I just couldn't leave it.

But when the girl was scooping it out, she said she thought it might be a male since it didn't have stripes like the others. Aren't stripes a sign of stress? How do I tell if it is a girl?

That looks like a girlie Puggle. And a very nice one at that! no red wash, even tail branch splits, and a very lovely colour! i wouldnt be surprised if that was from one of the imported lines there in your area Lovely fishy

You should see her swim around. The light flashes off her tail and she just glows.

How would I describe her (in the words betta-people use)?
She was in the super delta tail tank, but I couldn't really tell the difference between them and the others.

its hard to tell without a flaring picture of her displaying her tail...

she could be from SD parents and just not show the trait herself.

From these pics, i'd propaply say she was a delta, but a very good one.

And its blue. I dont think its a specific type of blue.
It looks like it has no red wash either. a very good thing.

So um, lets see, a blue delta female (possibly SD... but would need flaring pic)

If you go back to the pet shop, ask if they bought them from a man called Robin. It looks very much like one of his fish.

Thanks Calla. I was kind of hoping it would have a fancy description, but that's heaps better than "uhh...it's blue, and..ummm...probably female"

I just finished fixing up a pic of my male betta. He doesn't like having his photo taken as much as the female betta so it's hard to get a nice one. Here he is:

Oh PUGGLE! he is lovely! I have a serious soft spot for red veiltails and he is a wonderful example

What are their names BTW?

Red Betta and Blue Betta. Very imaginative names

I haven't actually decided yet, but leaning towards Ganymede and Callisto. They're two of Jupiter's moons and I like spacey things.

I'm glad you like them I had no idea what to look for in a betta, but these two seemed bright and active and I didn't know what else was important. I'm not sure if I chose them or they chose me

They're both beautiful Puggle. I have a red male quite similar to yours, he's up there with my favourites of my fish!

Here's a pic of him (with my cat in the background)...
