Last summer when my children were here for visitation we went to wander around PetSmart on my youngest son's 6th birthday. He fell in love with a red betta so I bought it; he was named Jim after my son's imaginary friend Jim lived alone until I got my 29g. I gave him a try in the community tank but he didn't do well...he alternated between nipping the other fish and getting nipped. After that he moved into a new 2g of his own. Jim always had a good personality. He liked being near the computer desk where I spend a lot of time. He could be hand-fed and petted. I use a soup ladle to move my bettas for water changes and he got so used to the procedure he'd swim right into it whenever it was cleaning time. I fed my four boys this morning...early this afternoon I was helping my daughter on the computer, took a quick look at each fish, and found Jim dead in his little hidey-cave The kids are here now for visitation and they're all very upset I apologize for the rambling. I've kept bettas for many, many years and they are most like 'pets' to me compared to my other fish. I haven't lost a betta in quite a while. Always curious: A betta with a bit of attitude: Just a lcs betta-in-a-cup but a good friend: ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

That is one of the problems with chain store bettas, they are normally a yr or more old before they are sold to the store. He was a very pretty boy! I've always assumed they have never experienced the thrills - fish coming to your hand, allowing themselves to be stroked and/or fed..... Jim was a good looking fish - no doubt about that! And it is quite apparent that he was a fish to be loved..... So all I can say is that I am truly sorry for your loss....
