Joey and being lonely | |
goldfishgeek Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 412 Votes: 38 Registered: 27-Oct-2003 | I really think Joey is lonely. I know it sounds bonkers but he swims up to the side of the tank looks at me swims away and sits on the bottom if i move - like drink my water or eat chocolate (more likely)he gets a bit interested, he goes for my hand when i feed him and most movement attracts a kinda look but mostly he looks sad if that is possible for a fish. he is in a five gallon well it might be 6 it is a half circle shaped tank. is there anything i can put in with him to spark some interest? even if he ends up eating what ever it is it has to be better i could move a female near t o him but i think he wants something to chase or interact with. am reluctant to risk live food and its assorted bugs. what about a tiny cory or two or ottos or do they need to be in sixes? shrimp maybe instead? i do think he is an excellent fish and he deserves some fun!! (African Dwarf Frogs) While my male betta doesn't go after them, they do seem to be compatabile.... And the ADFs antics are quite entertaining... I also noticed you had some fry.... IF they are of the non edible size, you might want to try a few of those in the tank with your betta.... Of course, if this is going to work or not would depend on the agression of your betta... But I can relate my experience with you... I have a nursey tank (20 gal) of about 40 or more platy fry - purchased a white male betta and have him in the tank as well... Initially, my betta "hid" in one of my cave decorations - I suppose not being used to all the activity of the "kids"! But over time, they've grown accustomed to one another and live quite happily together... "Ghost" (betta) is seen most of the time, magnificently gliding through the tank and the "kids" have not the first speck of fear since Ghost has never charged, attacked, etc..... All seems well! (As the "kids" have now reached about an inch in size, soon they will be going to my lfs --- possibly even this coming weekend --- and I have wondered if Ghost will miss them! But as I plan to transfer some of my 55 gal community residents to the 20 gal - I doubt if he'll be lonely long!
