Kissing G. maximum size? | |
amandalou Hobbyist Posts: 59 Kudos: 36 Votes: 0 Registered: 05-Dec-2003 | Right now, I have two kissing gouramis in a 55 gallon tank with cories, rasboras, a golden algae eater, and two female bettas. I have accounted for them to reach the maximum 12 inches each, but I am finding widely varying information on their expected captive size. Some accounts say to expect 12 inches, some say to assume they will only reach 6. Has anyone out there kept fully mature kissing gouramis in a tank? What were the tank dimensions, and how big did they get? I once say a pair of KGs in a LFS that were about 10 inches, but they had been pond raised. (As a side note and question - yes, I know I'm cutting it close with maximum bioload, but the KGs are still pretty young (about three), so I figure I have another few years before they reach anywhere near their max. I figure the rasboras will have reached the great pond in the sky by then. How long is the live span of rasboras, though - just to be sure?) |

Also, be aware that your "algae eater" will reach a foot in length as well, and stop eating algae. They eventually become territorial, and are not great for community tanks. |

I really hope they reach their full size; I think large fish have a really neat look to them. Also, I guess I'm in the wrong topic category to make this guess, but I thought that Golden Algae Eaters only got to about 12 centimeters, rather than 12 inches? Did I misread something somewhere? (I have, as you have guessed, only budgeted for 6 inches for him.) |

They have grown to just under 6in at present. Don't think they will grow too much more tho. But I could be wrong. That would be so cool if they would grow bigger |
