Does anyone know some type of fish that will build bubble nests, live in a small tank like 2g and not fight amongst themsleves?
PS. Am i looking for a 2 to 1 ratio in females to males for breeding?

a two gal is too small. You could house one male betta OR two female bettas ^_^

Can you try to get ahold of a 5 gallon tank? Then, you'd be in pretty good shape for a male and two female sparkling gouramis. Lots of plants and small caves for hiding would be great, too.

1 male betta fish would be an awesome choice, and I don't think you would be disappointed. . .I have one in a community tank and he is easily my favorite fish

Fish are like potato chips. . .you can't have just one

if u did u could only have one male and one female u would also need floating weed to in crease the chance of breeding it would be better to have a bigger tank for them but they would fit in to a 2G but that would be it no more fish n there. u could also have honey gouramis again 1 male and 1 female

A breeding pair of dwarf or honey gouramis - which will happen with one male and a female, can be rough on each other. A 2 gallon tank provides little to no hiding spaces without taking up a significant amount of water. You'd have to change water, very frequently or you'd get an ammonia, nitrite and nitrate build up that will greatly harm your fish, increase illness, and make your life miserable.

When people use such small tanks for breeding purposes, the fish are not kept long term in the smaller tank.

One betta would do OK in that 2 gallon tank (although a 5 gallon tank would be 100% better for the fish). I've had female bettas who had "issues" with another female in a well planted 10 gallon tank who sought out that female and killed her.

I don't think gourmis would be a wise choice either. They need thier room, and as with many other fish, including bettas, are agressive twords one another. Personally I wouldn't do a pair in less then a 29g, but its not unheard of to keep a pair in a 10g.

Are you dead set on bubblenest builders, because killies would LOVE that size tank, and breeed happily.

If you do want bubblenesters, what about sparkling gouramies? That'd be about all i'd try, unless you want to go for B. rutilans, but they are not easy to breed and might well tear each other to shreds in that size tank.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

What kind of killi would be good? Arn't they egg scatteres and won't they eat the eggs? And for Bubble Nesters what if the tank size is a 5g?

IMO, I don't think going from a 2g to 5g is enough change, personally I wouldn't attempt breeding in less then a 10. I also think that killis would be good in a 2g.

You can barely keep any fish in a 2g tank in the first place, let alone breed anything in there. I would never attempt to breed any type of fish in something smaller than a 10g. I know it may not be what you want to hear but breeding fish takes commitment and planning so please get the proper equipment before attempting it. Also, remember you will need a grow out tank to put the fry in.

it is possible to breed bettas in about 1 gallon, but only if you know what you are doing, and besides it isn't possible to raise the fry in 2 gallon.

with breeding, for get breeding anything in only 2 gallons, as you must keep in mind the young.

You may also want to consider livebearers as a starter fish, but again you would need a bigger tank.

you seem to have a problem with stocking, as you tend to want to breed fish in small tanks, when it should be the other way around.

livebearers need large tanks when breeding as you must consider room for the young.

mollys are not good in a 10 gallon, so i would move them into a larger tank, and breed a labyrith fish in your 10 gallon. but i would upgrade ur tanks now.

For mollies swords and cats, assuming you have at least a trio of each, you would need a 30g min.
