female australia
I once had a Betta which i bought, thinking it was a female, it was small and brown, but after a few months, it grew much bigger and it's fins turned a beautiful blue colour and it started to build a bubble nest. I had it in with a male and they got along fine, never tried to fight or anything. I was just interested to know whether it was a female with an identity crisis or if it really was a male.

could have been either, tho, i'd lean towards female because short tailed males are usually a bit 'plucky' to say the least

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

I've got the same issue... bought a girl as female, but I'm still not quite sure what she is. She builds bubble nests like there's no tomorrow. In fact, she holds the current record for biggest bubble nest I've ever seen (it covered probably 90% of the surface of her two gallon kritter keeper).

At one point, I thought I saw her oviposter (which should be easy to find, considering she's dark blue and purple), but haven't seen it since. I still refer to her as female, though she may well be male. *stares up at her*

I would lean to saying that he is a plakat betta.I had the same problem untill i posted a pic on australian betta forum, and i had many replys telling me that it was a plakat.I would really need to see a pic to tell for shour.
I think the reason he gets on with your other male is becaues you put them to gether when he was young, but i would remove one of them because you will get up to find them torn to shreds or dead because the plakats hormons will kick in.
