How long have you been conditioning them for? If its been at least a week then you can try and see.

Let us know how it turns out!

Just some advice: Be patient and relax! My first spawn, and iam sure it was like this for a lot of ppl, I was so nervous!!! I sat and watched them for hours, and i was getting so frustrated that they wern't spawning yet. Patients is the key...

Good Luck!

neither of these shows the female's true color... But u can still get the way they look and see the "bowing" that is I think from eggs because she was basically straight before I started conditioning...

***Another Update***

Okay I think they are ready for it... I'll post pictures... I've been conditioning them on flake, freeze dried brine, and frozen bloodworms.

Vertical bars mean "ready to spawn" - but ready to spawn doesn't mean full of eggs. Better to have the one that's in great condition and plump and wait (and expose her to the male's "scent" by putting her in his water) than risk an unconditioned female just 'cause she's a little randy. Sounds like all is going pretty well, BTW. Here's my lone bit of unsolictied advice: male ripping a female a bit is normal. Female ripping a male noticeably? IME that never, ever ends in anything but her killing him if you don't separate them and give it some time. Males will bluff and badger, but a female that really, really doesn't want to spawn can kill your pretty male - don't trust 'em!

Update... I have never bred bettas before and this is my first time. But this is still a little funny if it is true. I have been conditioning one of the females not both. The one I have been conditioning is fat, but not showing the verticle bars. The one I haven't is showing verticle bars ...

Yea I love him. I'm conditioning him right now, along with the female that I chose for him. Wish me luck!

Here is the royal blue SD male that I got off of aquabid. I got him from a breeder in central New York (state). She sent me him and 2 spawn sibling females and 2 multi females as freebies. I also got a free starter microworm culture and an established confused flour bettle culture. If anyone wants her email, just pm me.

That is a wonderful male congrats!

and well done on finding a caring breeder/supplier

Depends on the store though - I got my Carson (below), who's at about 175 degrees, at a local pet store. Haven't seen SDs since, but they pop up now and again.
