I just bought a brand new 10 gal. tank 4 days ago. I got 2 cherry barbs and 2 golden barbs in there right now. I have now just started to cycle my tank.

Here are my questions regarding a possible gourami.

Q: How long will it be before I can add one or more gouramis to my tank? (Dwarf Gouramis)

Q: Will either of my barbs fight with the gourami or vise-versa?

Q: How much cover will be needed for my gourami to be satisfied?

TIA

The tetra and gourami thread at http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Labyrinth%20Lounge/52321.html?200501020957 will help you. IME, Barbs in general are a little more nippier than tetras. Differences between species and schooling numbers matter, of course.
What kind of barbs do you have?
The thread also talks about cover, though I've kept dwarf gouramis before without cover and without problems.

Dwarf gouramis are pretty hardy, so you can add them to your tank a day or two after you start cycling.
