I really was NOT intending to get any fish on this last trip to the LCPS. After all, all I needed was Onyx sand for my new ten gallon and to sit and watch my dog graduate from obedience class.

But nooooooooooooo... I had to walk by the bettas! Drat it all, anyway. Red, red, blue, red, dead betta *sigh*, red/blue, red, pale yellow/white... red... hey, wait... yellow? Go back! Ooo... pretty betta! Yeah... anyway, he snuck home with me. I was even thinking that I had an extra two gallon (which is what I keep my male bettas in), etc. When I got home, however, I dropped him in the five gallon minibow with [link=Baby]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/50006.html" style="COLOR: #202020[/link] and the lil guppy boy. There's also at least one algae cleaning shrimp in there... they hide so much that I don't know if both of them are still there, but I did see one today.

I know that the guppy boy will likely be attacked as he becomes older and his tail grows, however, no fear, he's moving out whenever my sister remembers to grab him on her way back to school! (She keeps all the male guppies, I get the females.) Baby himself is moving on to the ten gallon (yes, the one the sand is for). When that happens, I'll stick a trio of young female guppies in there with my new betta boy, I think, as my original ten gallon is overcrowded with them.

I need help with names... I have four other bettas in individual tanks. Boys by the name of Liberty, Pursuit, Equity and an undecided sex by the name of Jezebel/beau. Liberty and Pursuit were part of a naming series of Life, Liberty, Justice and Pursuit (of happiness), though their buddies have passed on. Equity was the accounting fish when he was kept at work, and Jezebel was named because "she" was bought as female, then promptly terrorized my female betta community tank. She's now dubbed Jezebel the betrayer. The rest of my females are named after the nine Greek muses from mythology.

So... yeah... any suggestions? My boys kind of all wound up with the whole "American Ideal" type names, but I'm not opposed to a different theme. [/font]

How about Honor, Freedom, or Independence? They go along with your name scheme. If it had been a girl I would have voted for Glory. I used to breed dogs and had a litter born on the 4th of July... I named them Freedom, Independence, Glory, Liberty, and Justice. Good luck with the little guy!

Oh, don't I know it, Ferret? I'm running out of counter space, but surely I can put some candles away, right? Or throw something out?

I mean... I've GOT another two gallon tank, plus like, three one gallons (the original homes of my bettas), so surely I can save a few more bettas from filthy cups, especially when they'd only to be doomed to life in tiny little tanks? I can give them more room than those stupid mini tanks that are hardly bigger than the cups they're sold in!

Besides the whole "save the bettas!" kick, I just can't resist getting something I don't have... That's how I got my steel blue crowntail and now this guy. He IS a pretty one, especially considering where I got him.

And thanks for the name suggestions, Stormy, I'll have to think on them.

"Save the Bettas"

Your heart is in the right place Kitten!

My hospital/QT tanks keep turning into betta tanks.

The only thing stopping me from betta buying now, is a SW tank on the way.

It only gets worse.

*ponders the thought of marine bettas*

Not really my thing so I think I'll be okay.

The guppy boy was hiding so well today that I thought he was a goner. I'm going to have to figure something out for that poor lil guy. The new betta was even flaring up at Baby, who's nearly his size!

The female guppies are much larger than this lil guppy, so hopefully they can hold their own. I'm going to be prepping the new ten gallon tomorrow. I have to clean betta tanks and move the male betta from the ten gallon back to his two gallon, then clean sand and put that in... my plant order just shipped today, so I'm expecting that by the end of the week. *crosses fingers*

I didn't think the betta would go after the poor lil guppy boy... he seemed very laid back for a betta, but I guess he was just settling in. He flared at me and tried to bite me through the side of the tank when I shook my finger at him for chasing the guppy. I don't think the guppy's in much danger, as he's light years faster than the betta, but well... Things need to move, as I'd rather not give the betta boy the temptation of a live meal.

That is one pretty betta. You are lucky someone else didn't snatch him up, but then most people might not have been able to appreciate his beauty.

Funny thing was, I'd been to the same store not a week previously and hadn't seen him. I must have completely overlooked him the first time (I always stop to look at the bettas). That picture doesn't show off his finnage very well... he's got an amazingly long, flowing tail when he flares it out.

I'm thinking Honor or Glory, despite the feminine cast of the second name. Still not sure... have to wait for a bit to see his personality. I'll let you know when I decide for sure!

I will be happy with either name. SO glad I could help you name your new baby. It makes me feel very honored.
