Can you explain how the tank is going to be set up (filters, gravel type/size, plants, caves, etc)?

Substrate - black gravel
Caves - 2, plus hidy hole under filter(internal canister type) and potential to add 1-2 more small ones.
Planting - just a few crypts at the moment but could add more
Light - low-very low

Usually males will kill the females. At the very least you'll end up with a dead male after he's been shredded. Unless you're getting some variety of wilds. Multiple Females can be kept together relatively well though. A bit of fin nipping, but nothing that won't regrow. Needs to be heavy on decor also.

I would suggest that a 15 gal where you are looking at maximum stocking for visual impact that attempting to mix an unknown male with unknown females is probably not going to end well. Most likely scenario is that there is a lot of hen-pecking and infection, and probably some irrecoverable damage.

For a 15, I'd go maybe 5 females and a pair of bottom dwellers like kuhli loaches or otos.

I think the male with a school of other fish would be better.

I would suggest 1 Male with 8 Small tetras such as Cardials or Glowlights, Black neons or even phantoms. You could go for 6 or 7 MALE Guppies, not sure if there would be fin nipping but they are small.

Also you could go for a small group of 6 Panda Cories.

Thanks for your input as always, Shane
