It is common and most likely she will eat the fallen eggs, if not i would do a WC. If you are considering her for breeding, make sure you condition her for two weeks on fatty foods. |

HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | ok, but now the male(who i thought was a female) looks like he has a white pimple near the vent like females do, but the confusing thing is that he built a bubble nest for a different female, but has never acctually bred before that i know of... What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really..... |

Another thing that makes it hard, is that some females will build a bubble nest. Again uncommon. There have been reports of two females mating, but no successful hatchings of course. Again rare. If you would PM me with a photo of the fish, i can usually tell you the sex of the fish. |

HorseGal Hobbyist Posts: 134 Registered: 28-Jun-2007 | He flares at her a lot and tries to get to her, but she only flares once and a while. she doesnt seem vey interested in him yet..... i have a question.... when do females stop producing eggs? what about males, when do they have to stop breeding? even if they are to old, do they still build bubble nests? he hasnt started a nest yet, but its only been 10 minutes.... sorry, i just really want this to work out.... What came first? the chicken or the egg? No really..... |

MoFish Hobbyist Posts: 148 Kudos: 40 Registered: 15-Mar-2006 | just be patient, i had to wait a full day for my boy to build a nest (and it was huge). Some say they had to wait nearly 5 days before the male decided he was ready to stary one. the whole process can take up to 2 weeks so dont worry if hes not building one right away. Did you "float" the female in a cup before releasing her into the tank or did you just put her in? floating the female gives the male time to "want" her and for him to build a nest (should he choose, some don't build a nest till after the female is released) I also noticed, what looks like to me, that your girl may have fin rot. So be careful and after she breeds, keep her water very clean. ~Morgan~ |

bettachris Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3875 Kudos: 4173 Votes: 452 Registered: 13-Jun-2004 | you really shouldnt be breeding her now. If both fishes arent conditioned for breeding, then they probably will not mate well and can cause health problems for eachother. You will need to condition both fishes for 2 weeks with fatty foods, as they arent conditioned to breed. |

MoFish Hobbyist Posts: 148 Kudos: 40 Registered: 15-Mar-2006 | Some betta girls dont show breeding stripes, but if she is showing an interest then you should go for it BUT I do agree with Chris, you should heal her fin rot first before breeding, so I say call it off. It really doen't matter wether the female is "full of eggs" or not: mine wasn't and she still got atleast 70 eggs out, and she was a small girl too. After you heal her fin rot and try again (after 2 weeks of conditioning first) read this site: http://www.bettatalk.com/how_bettas_spawn.htm It taught me all i know about betta breeding. And please, in the future dont post a new topic if no one is responding to yours, just "bump" it up ~Morgan~ |
