The past like...five times I've tried to breed ANY pair of bettas, the female is always like "Yeah, I want some of dat " and the male is like "Hmmmm no" and won't blow -any- bubbles. Even when they're in seperate containers they don't blow bubbles! I don't understand... I'm doing everythign right, I -think-... any ideas?

If it was a pet store fish, then it was probably too old... Get younger stock.

They aren't. I used to try with that, but the last two tries were with breeders (BC Betta, BlueBetta USA)

It could be your water - it's my understanding that hardness contributes directly to bubblenesting. I can't recall (it was never an issue for me, so the info didn't stick) whether it's very soft water or very hard water that won't hold bubbles, but one or the other, that could be it.

Anyway, remember you don't need a bubblenest to breed successfully - all you need is a dedicated male.

Keeping your bettas on a healthy diet could help too. Live food is probably the best but if you can't freeze-dried will do. Good luck

Usually I feed my bettas frozen bloodworms and mosquito larvae-- but anyway, he's started to build a nest now I'm breeding an HM gold female, and a DT copper male... pretty babies, hopefully! Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone
