OIE!! bettas bred..storm...looks like 300 more on the way! | |
fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | well, last night around 9 i was headed to bed, and decided to check up on my bettas, but the storm knocked out the power, so i checked it my candle light, then flashlight to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me but, right there was the nest with approx 300 eggs in it, and about that time, the female went down and picked up and egg descretely and rolled it around her mouth a while, and opened up her mouth, and the egg slowly floated back to the nest so, i set up a tea candle by the tank, and let them be for the night. finnaly around 2:00pm today the power came back on, and i looked in (had been by candle for a while) and i saw the male gaurding his treasure, and the female lurking in the shadows, i spotted him chasing her, and decided to remove her after i saw her consume an egg, i set down a piece of slate down below, because this 5 gallon was not (completely) intentually suppost to be a breeding tank, but either of them had ripped/nipped fins. but after placing her in the main tank again, i fed them up good, but back to the slate, it caught many eggs, but with being a hex and all i couldent make it tight to the wall, but its a good this i did not, he stoops down there to retreve any eggs that fell down there, he is being a good papa and is it normal for a fw eggs (like 1 or 2 at most) to be floating without a bubble? seemed wiered to me but i just set on some brine shrimp eggs a short while ago, and its kinda hot in here, so the tank is a stedy temp of 80-84 perfect..dont neee a heater but i am collecting some rain water now too, when should i start changing the water to help the ph down? i know not for like 2 weeks right? i would have done it sooner...but yea, this wasnt intended to be this monent but YIPPY!!! im curious as to what they will look like i hope not too ugly |

fishyhelper288 Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | the fry hatched early this miorn and the male is doing a fantastic job now i wish i could share pics alot more of these fry r stronger than those of my first batch, and im thinking it was because the other 2 were brother and sister from walmart these couldent possibly be realated, so maybe thats it? im very pleased with his effort/:' |
