When I got up this morning and went to the livingroom, I thought I saw a huge palmmetto roach on the counter. Luckily I quickly recognized that it was my betta Pineapple. He had jumped out of his bowl because the cover was partially off of the top of his bowl. I scooped him up with my hand...I know not recommended, but I was more concerned with getting him back in the water. I also put some betta fix in his bowl. Any other suggestions? His dorsal fin is clamped and he is not very active right now, but that may be due to stress. I sure hope he will be okay. Any advice or happy endings from similar happenings?

he should be fine, I have had a few betta jump out of there bowl and live. There very hearty little fish, and being labyrinth helps when there out of the water. Give him a few days and he should be fine.

How long was he out of the water for?
I had a male betta jumped out one night. I found him about 5 hrs later before going to bed. All dried up. I thought he was dead. My hubby put him into some tank water, after awhile his gills started to move. About 1 hr later he started to swim, but kepted on crashing/ tieing himself out like. We turned the lights out, and the following morning went in to check on him. Sadly it was too much for the poor little fella. He died. Good luck with yours.

Hopefully he wasn't out of the water too long, that would definitely make a difference.

I had a jumper once...my husband scooped him up with his hand, I think that's a natural reaction, and got him back in the water. That's my oldest betta who has been with me for almost a year.

Hoping you have a happy ending as well.

I don't know how long he had been out of the water. He wasn't crispy though and still jumping around. He was kinda hard to scoop up. So I have hopes he will recover. Thanks for the encouraging reports.

I don't know what kinda bowl that you have. But, we have several of our 12 in 1 gallon storage jars.

My wife bought some plastic mesh that she made covers for to replace the metal screw on lids. That way we don't freak them out when we use to unscrew the lids. These slip over, and they're too heavy for them to pop it off.

Here's some pics:

I hope that you get the idea better from the pic. Maybe you could make one for your bowl.

Hope your lil guy will be fine

I use screens with rubberbands. I bought a roll of nylon screen from home depot awhile back for a lizard cage. I cut circles out and keep them on the bowls with rubber bands. Works quite well.

Pineapple is still alive and perking up. Thanks for the ideas for lids, I had been using a cd jewel box to cover the lid. Mystery of how it got shifted was solved when my 4 yr old granddaugther explained that she had petted Pineapple. We had a long talk about how fish need to be in the water and you can't pet them like you can Mimi the pug. I hope she will limit her interaction with the fish from now on to just watching.
