While browsing for fish I picked up two Opaline Gouramis. The guy at my LFS said he was giving me a nale and a female. But I still want to double check, anyway to do that?

Another thing thats bugging me is that both of the gouramis
have a thin black border on their caudal, pelvic, dorsal fins. Can this be fin rot?

They're quite active, and they seem to be fine. Still...

I was checking out fin rot. They say red spots appear, and the "border" of the fins is whitish not black.

One of the gouramis does have a VERY little piece of the pelvic fin missing, maybe a fight before I got it. They seem fine though, active, eating, etc.

Anyone??? Comments. Please.

Thanks.

My gouramis have black around them (well, it is like a dark blue)

Anyways, to tell male from female is to look at their top fin.

Males are long and pointy, while females are short, and rounded off.

I have 4 young gouramis (approx 4 month old) and you still cant sex them, so it might take a while.

Can't help you on the gender thing, but if you're concerned about finrot, quarintine them, melafix them & just keep an eye on them. If it turns out not to be anything it won't hurt them any, and it protects your other fish from potentially introducing a disease into your tank

I just picked up two of these myself. I think they are a lot more beautiful then the regular blue gourami when they are mature. I think I picked up two females myself... is there any possibility of aggression like if you have two males? So far they seem to be getting along great.

rewd, the ones I got are fine with each other and so far I have'nt seen them be aggressive. But victimizati0n told me that they may become aggressive once they've been in a tank for a couple of weeks. If your tank is big enough though, you shouldn't have a problem.

Btw, you're right about the beautiful part.
