On the fishprofiles.com profile of paradise fish it says that it would be comaptible with covict cichlids. But i have a 20 gallon and i do not think that it a big enough tank for convicts. I would love to explore the cichlid world, but i do not want to have to get rid of my paradise fish. Would a smaller cichlid be possible to keep in a 20 gallon? I was thinking of a pair maybe. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Dwarf cichlids such as rams and Apistogrammas should be all right. They tend to be peaceful, and should get along just fine with paradise fish. Also, dwarf cichlids stay very small (usually no greater than three inches), so you can easily keep a pair in twenty gallons.

My pH is around 7.2 and i have a few plants. What other changes should i make to my tank to make it better for the rams? I think i am going to take a trip to the LFS today. My tank is also at 78°. I have a few rock structures, should i get half a pot to put in there? Thanks for the awsome responses!

Your tank should be pretty fine as it is. However, adding some kind of cave would be a good idea. Rams appreciate a place to go when they are stressed.

What else is in that tank? Is it just one paradise fish? How many rams do you want to add, and what kind? I just want to clarify these things, to make sure that there won't be any problems.

I have one male and one female paradise fish. Also i have two night gobys, but i have a friend who is willing to take them since she wants them and i dont mind giving them up, if it would better to not have them in the tank. I am going to get a pot, what is the best way to sterilize them? Thanx sirbooks for all your awesome help and quick responses!

If it's just a plain clay pot, I'd bake it. Knight gobies in FW tanks are bad news, so I sure hope your friend will be keeping them in brackish water!

I was told they were all right in freshwater, i hate people at FISH stores who know nothing about FISH. Well i got the two blue rams, Billy (the girl) and Tyrese. I am pretty sure they are a male and a female, one has more sparkly blue on its face, so i think that is the male, and the larger one has a pink section on her ventral side, so i suppose it is the female, Thank you all for your responses!
