Paradise fish? Can You keep a Male and Female together? Plus other thoughts... | |
So_Very_Sneaky Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3238 Kudos: 2272 Votes: 201 Registered: 10-Mar-2004 | Just wondering if you can keep a pair of paradise fish together, as in a male and a female, or are they like bettas where you cant kept them together? I am considering breeding my female, she is plump and mature and seems to be of the right age. I have seen some very nice males recently, and have been considering breeding them/keeping them in my 10g with some cory hasbrosus. Thoughts? The female and 4 c. hasbrosus are already in the tank, plus I have 3-6 more hasbrosus corys on hold in QT at the pet store waiting for pickup. I was thinking: 2 Paradise fish 7 C. Hasbrosus Biweekly water changes of 25% Or: 2 Paradise fish and moving the C.Hasbrosus to my 75g tank and going with 10 altogether. Would they be able to compete with large corys/loaches? Or: Swapping the 9 C. Aeneus out of my 25g tank, and putting the 10 C. hasbrosus in the 25g with some neons and glowlights? OR: Just trying to breed C. Hasbrosus in the 10g, and going with 10 of them in there combined with 2x weekly water changes. Thoughts? Thanks. Attaching a pic of the tank as well to give some ideas. Way back with my first tank (29g) I kept a M/F pair, not knowing any of the above. I was lucky, no problems between the two and they were the first fish I saw spawn! Your tank has lots of hiding places, and if you have a backup plan (somewhere to put the F if things go bad) I'd say give it a try. first unexpected spawn ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

They spawned numerous times but none of the fry made it. I had 2 males and 2 females together. But, I have a 55 gal. with lots of places for the females to hide if they don't feel like mating. All my males ever did was build bubble nests at the opposite ends of the tank and occasionally flair at eachother. They never fought. |

Or should I move the C. Hasbrosus Out to my 25g, and go with a trio of ADF or a pair of Wood Shrimp? Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

Paradise fish are one of the first fish that were available in the aquarium trade - you would figure many more people know more about them. Hmmmmm. Not much info on paradisefish, and not many willing to take a risk either. If you have the tank densely planted with plenty of escapable hideyholes (so they cannot corner one another) it should be doable, but it'll depend on the fish. Try to get siblings |

Would this be too much: 2 Paradise fish 7 C. hasbrosus I don't think it would be too much, and if you're trying to breed them I'd keep the stocking at that, nothing else. Good luck & let us know what you decide and how it works out ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |
