I just got a pair of pearls and one is being aggressive to the other one. They are in a 55 gallon tank. Ive read that they are very peaceful. Whats up?

Peaceful to other fish.... I assume you have two males... or a very dominant male and female... All male anabantids will be agressive to each other to some extent... It's part of their nature... Depending on how agressive your fish are, you may need to seperate them or take one back.

Pearls usually are peaceful, but like John said, there's two combinations you could have of m/f that could lead to aggression. *Almost* all gouramis are very peaceful fish, except when two males are together. You may want to try keeping them in odd numbers, or solo. Try moving the decor around and keeping the tank heavily planted, so the more dominant one loses his territory. If all else fails, you may be forced to return one. HTH

I just made a cave with slabs of rock and added two huge plants. They can barely find each other

Did you solve your problem? I have three pearls, and one is very aggressive to the other. Never hurts him -- just keeps driving him into a corner. (Both are males.)

The smaller male doesn't seem unhappy, and comes out to eat (the other male usually lets him) but I'm going to separate them anyway.
