This is SMITH

He is my newest purchase and is currently in the spawning tank

Now, I have a challenge for you all

I want to know what you think Smith's WEAK POINTS are, whats 'wrong' with him, and what I should try to breed out or improve.

I have a longish list (as you do, i guess, aim high ) but I want a few other perspectives.

So go on, pick on my fish [/font]

Cute! I love marbles! Heres what I would try to improve:
-Straighter rays: the tail and anal fin look curved, the anal looks like it could be from damage tho.
-Sharper edges: to get the full HM effect in tail.
-The dorsal is kinda skinny and tilted back
-I don't really like the curve from his nose and up.

What I do like:
-the marble pattern, i would try and get more sharper contrast tho
-I also like his anal fin, its not too long and not too pointy.
-the ventrals, they are nice and long and i like the white tips!
-Hes got some nice ray spliting so hopfully he will pass that on with the right female!

Good luck with him!

I like him, but if anything I'd want more coloring in the tailthere is that good enough? I like marbles as well though, and am growing quite fond of plakats

the dorsal need to better placed,
the color needs to be cleaned up,
and the body spine is alittle bit to "bent"

please note these are just what i look for in a betta, thats what i look for in my bettas, so what ever u like is best.

cool!

I think that photo might be a but deceptive on the colour front, copper is VERY difficult to photograph with flash. Here is his promo photo by AussieBettas, a far better representation of the colour

The tail is too grizzled for my liking, so that will need to be fixed, but being a marble, it could be white next week anyway really

I agree with the straightness thing Chris, i don't like that dip after the dorsal.

I'm putting him with a female from a DT/HM spawn, so hopefully that will clear up that dorsal placement/size problem.

I love white tipped ventrals too! Its a fault, but i'm not breeding them out I think they look splendid!

When i bought him, i thought the tail spread was much smaller, so having the 170+ with reasonably straight edges is a good deal I'm hoping the HM from the female's side will straighten them even more.

yeah, he is quite an odd copper colour. I've never heard of a copper green, but if such a thing exists, he is it
