I'm so sorry... bettas are so hard to lose. I just lost one of my betta girls this weekend, too, actually... didn't seem to be any reason, as she ate heartily of frozen bloodworms the night before and then I found her dead in the plants the next day.

How old was Bob? Any clue as to why he died or was it just old age?

In any case, he's up in that big fish tank in the sky... scarfing on his favorite food, I'm sure!

Thanks, I honestly don't think it was anything I did. My boyfriend thought he was old when I saved him from a pet store. He was eating and his water was perfect.

Hmm... how long did you have him? Generally, bettas are about 9 months old or so when you get them from a pet store. Even so, they should last at least a couple years. It just seems odd that he died randomly. Though, of course, it could just be that he wasn't kept terribly well in the store? Dirty water, etc there could certainly have an effect on the longevity of a betta.

Did you dechlor the water when you did water changes? Keep the water warm and have a fairly stable temp? If he was eating and seemed healthy, those are the only things that come to mind beyond simple lax care in the store.

Poor Bob.

I did all of those things. I honestly don't know what I could have done differently.

After being in that LFS in that condition, maybe he died from clean water!
