I've heard this mentioned on boards before and I'm thinking one of my new CTs has it. It's not harmful to the fish in the long run, is it? It's not a genetic defect that will hurt him, I mean? When I bought him a week and a half ago, he was completly red, but now he seems to be getting paler around his face. He's healthy and happy (eating well, building bubble nests) so I know he's not sick. I've just never had a betta's color fade except after death before. Help?

Its not at all dangerous

Its kind of like white horses that are born black, or dalmations that develop spots as they get older red loss is a bit of a hassle of you are breeding for a particular colour and the colour ends up fading away, but there is nothing dangerous about having a fish that displays this trait.

For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. - Terry Pratchett

Good cause one of my females has it. She was deep red, but now her body is more a whitish-pink. But she (maddison) is still my favorite cause she will eat flakes right out of my hands.

Thanks! I'm very happy to hear it won't hurt him. Is there any particular way the color is supposed to fade, or does it vary from fish to fish? I noticed the loss first around his head, but now the color is beginning to fade from further back, closer to his tail.
