I just got back from my LFS- I went for fish food and malaysian trumpet snails- and came back with a betta girl that was in with -get this- a 6+ inch OSCAR. She had to have been in there with him for over 2 weeks acording to the employee as they've gotten neither bettas or oscars in for over 2 weeks.

I wasn't planning on getting any more bettas ever since my favorite, my purple betta boy Nietzsche, died from the stress of his chronic fin rot. He was another rescue and he was with me for what seems like forever and was my first betta since I got interested in fishkeeping again. The new girl is in his old tank (which has been sitting empty after I cleaned it out after Nietzsche's passing) and seems to be doing well. She seems a lot happier now that there isn't a giant trying to make her into a snack.

Now I just have to name her. I have to come up with a nice, strong name for this tough little (and I do mean little, she's got to be very young) girl who survived with that big oscar all this time.

Good for you...I'm sure if she could thank you she would. I get really upset when I see some of the things my LPS tries to get away with as far as stocking their tanks]:|]:|
Luckily there are fish enthusiasts like you out there to watch the fishes backs.

Thanks. Right now I'm mainly hoping she survives the stress. I know I would be majorly stressed if some 5 times my size was chasing me and trying to make me into lunch. My LPS is really bad- if I had any other choice, I would shop elsewhere. I just can't drive 70 miles round trip for fish and supplies from a pet store only marginally better. They used to keep tetras and corydoras with pirahnas when they still sold pirahnas.

A lot of my fish have been rescues- my loaches and ottos were saved from tanks of ASST. African Cichlids that are really nippy and agressive and almost all of my bettas have been rescued. This new girl was the worst of all- none of the others were in danger of being torn apart when I bought them.
