Several male gouramis in tank ?? | |
crickit99 Hobbyist Posts: 136 Kudos: 194 Votes: 2 Registered: 21-Jul-2004 | I have a friend who got a 55 gallon tank (which is actually what shot me into fish obsession, haha). Anyway, he is one of those point and pick people, and he has no idea about what he puts in his tank. I try to give him some advice, but it only works sometimes. Anyway, his current set-up is 2 small plecos, 2 Kissing gouramis, 2 Gold gouramis, and 2 clown loaches. He had 2 blue gourami's, but they both died...never did look too healthy. And he knows those loaches are going to a new home in a few years. All the gourami's are male, and he wants to get some Drawfs and add some penguin tetras. His males are already chasing each other a lot, and 1 of each is really getting picked on. Am I correct in thinking this is a bad set-up? I don't see him chnaging his mind, so is there anything I can do to help the set up? Also, what kind of plecos does he have? Do you mean the golds are chasing each other? In a tank that large, he can set up territories by adding walls of plants or placing ob |

He won't get rid of them, I advised him against getting them in the first place. Luckily he took my advice on the Cichlids, as the guy at PetCo advised he could get all sorts and mix and match...and that his 55 gallon could hold 55 fish! (55 Oscars...*sigh*) I'm not sure what the plecos are, but they are barely 2 inches, if that, right now. I am switching my tank over to planted & upgrading, so I am slowly giving him a lot of my stuff. I have some good fake plants that are tall, so I'll set those up in his. Christina |

When I first set up I had an opaline gourami and a gold gourami and I found that these were very active and disturbing and stressing to the dwarfs. Dwarfs seem to be a lot more peaceful and less boisterous. If I were you I'd stick to either gouramis or dwarf gouramis. |
