I know Theresa_M has just got herself some, and I have now become pretty interested in them. They are amazing. I've done some reading on them, and they seem pretty shy and peaceful.

I was thinking of putting one in my 20 gallon. The tankmates are guppies and corydoras...very peaceful tank.

I have a few questions. Are they ok by themselves, or do they need to be kept in groups? Are they even ok in my tank? Anything special that I should really know about? I'm really considering getting one...

Thanks

I original got two just over six months ago. They were in my 30g with kribs, an angel, black phantom tetras, and cories. In the beginning they would just hang out in the floating plants but as they grew more comfortable I'd see them in different parts of tank other than just at feeding time.

Unfortunately one died when I was gone away one a long weekend The survivor did fine on its own, acting the same as when there were two.

I wanted to make some changes in my 30g so it got moved to my 29g for a short while with a paradisefish, platies & guppies, rams, and loaches. It actually seemed more active with this group of fish.

I think one would be fine but for some nice color get a pair if you have the space.

Here is a page with comments made by people with sparkling gourami experience.

They should be fine together. They don't seem to have the aggression that can accompany dwarf gourami, yet don't seem to require any company in order to be comfortable. They can be a little timid due to their small size, but the guppies will probably allow them to feel pretty comfortable pretty quickly...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Racso and I just got 2 each the other day. Cute little things For now he has all four in a tank with various rainbowfish and other gouramis. They seem to be doing alright. They hide a lot, but I don't blame them. All the other fish are much bigger than them.

Once I get rid of my ich problem, I'm going to cycle my 10g and put 2 of them in there with some other fish. I really like them

Make sure you have a good amount of floating plants so they have a place to feel secure, even after they're comfortable in the tank and start venturing out.

Thanks for all the info! I'm looking for floating plants. I am definitely getting them...especially after seeing how cheap they are selling them at liveaquaria.com:

I believe that site has a 35$ minimum purchase. Unless you already took that into account
