Stripey female bettas? | |
goldfishgeek Fish Addict Posts: 667 Kudos: 412 Votes: 38 Registered: 27-Oct-2003 | Is it a serious problem that both my blue females go stripey and brown when the light comes on or there is a noise in the room? they are not stripey all the time and colour up at feeding time to fight over who gets what bits of food. some times if the pinky red one is being a bully they go stripey then too? I have just read on the board that it is a sign of illness? cheers GFG Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. There are also stripes that mean the betta girl is in the mood for breeding. Most likely if no male is around these are stress stripes as they only occur when a sudden action gives the fish a start. |

They should relax enough soon for it not to be a problem, but try to give them a bit of warning when you are going to do something, maybe tap on the wall before you turn the light on, so its not such a bright bright suprise |

Horizontal fading stripes are usually a stress reaction, while Verticle Dark Strips are usually a sign of breeding. All of my female bettas get stressed around feeding time as well, and it usually goes away as soon as feeding time is over. Just watch out for disease, as that stress can hurt their immune system. |
