THIS IS SO EVIL!!! | |
T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | I too think keeping a Betta(or any fish) in those tiny containers is cruel. But only because I've seen how active a Betta is when kept in a larger tank. Most people that buy those tiny containers have no experience with Bettas. If people would see a healthy Betta in a 10 gallon tank before making a purchase, most of them would buy a larger tank. |

Small containers just compound the problem. I accidentally made a few Lesson learnt, and the condition is not too bad. |

Something to color coordinate with the room, or contrast, or comes in the school color(s). They don't realize how active and beautiful a betta can be in a 5 or 10g tank. Another thing against male bettas are they can only be kept one to a tank. Again encouraging keeping them in small containers, to save space and allow more to be kept by uneducated pet owners. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | You'd think by the replies to this thread that this is a new invention... I've seen these for ages. Bettas have been sold in cups for years. Yes, people are stupid. Yes, people actually put fish in those containers. Yes, they believe that crap about bettas living in puddles in the wild. It happens. It's stupid, people are stupid, and fish suffer for it. The point was made about these being good photo op containers. It's a very good idea, I think, though I'm not going to go and pay the twelve bucks that petco wants for a nearly identical piece... and that's on CLEARANCE! Original price of that tiny container was nearly 20 bucks. For 20 bucks, I can get TWO full one gallon setups! THAT is what is truly stupid about people... WHY would you waste your money on something so very tiny when you could get two or more complete, larger setups for the same amount of money? People are uninformed. Companies are out to make money. And they make the most money by buying things that uninformed people are going to buy, even to the detriment of another living creature. And no matter what we'd all wish for, people are going to remain ignorant. Some people just refuse to consider that what they accept to be truth is nothing but a fallacy wrapped up in pretty packaging. Edit: I can spell, really I can... T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | Something else I've been thinking about is stunting. Everybody always talks about goldfish and other larger fish becoming stunted from being in to small of a tank. What about Bettas? A 3" fish being kept in a little container surely would be stunted. Maybe that's why Bettas have such a short life span. Anybody else ever think about that? |

Callatya Moderator The girl's got crabs! Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001 | You know, they do have their uses with bettas. That particular one is a bit narrow, but those things make brilliant photography tanks because your depth of field is limited and you get a nice flat surface. It is utterly tiny, and no good for actually keeping a fish in. On the up side, it doesn't include "magic" gravel that only needs a water change every 3 months |

Do a little math and figure out what scale a human would be to a Betta....and then put him/her in a box around the size of that "bowl" (to scale ofcourse) and see how they like it. I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't. ]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:|]:| Last edited by Jessnick at 25-Apr-2005 15:27 |

Maybe we could all send in reports to e-bay stating how crawl these tanks are and the people who are selling them are criminals to force such cruelty on innocent animals. What do you all think if they get enough complaints they might get the tanks took of? http://www.greenspersonalprinting.com/ |

I didn't mean it to you personally, but to all those who put a Betta in that type of tank. In my opinion, that's not a fish tank but a glass ornament.
