Hello,
I have two tanks, a 30 gallon and a 10 gallon.
In my 30 gallon I have 6 paired gourami fish 3 spots, pearl, and sunset. I also have 1 flame, 1 kisser (other died), and 1 paradise fish. For a whopping total of 9 fish. I have a Emperor 280 filter and my tank couldn't be cleaner.

My 10 gallon has 3 female bettas and 1 male betta. They are kind of depressed. They use to swim around all day. But now they just hide.

I have been considering moving them to my 30 gallon tank.

My hope is that in a larger tank they will not feel the need to hide. Plus I have around 25 plants in the 30 gallon tank with excellent hiding. My goal was to breed them but the male has no interest in producing a bubble nest.

Tell me what you think. I know there is a bit of an issue with over stocking. But currently none of my gouramis are larger than 2 inches. And if it does become an issue I can bring them to school to a larger tank.

Thanks,
JH

When not breeding, male and female bettas are not a good mix. Male bettas should never be kept with other bettas, regardless of sex, unless attempting to breed the male and female. Otherwise, tehy'll nip constantly at each other and hide in result.

To breed them, you're going to need just one male, one female, in a bare tank with no gravel-- I suggest you check the appropriate posts in 'advanced bettas" for more information.

So what your saying is I could move over the male Betta or the 3 Female Bettas?

But if I move all of them over I will most likely have the same hiding Betta problem.

The sad thing is for 6 months the tank was perfect. Just the last few weeks nothing but hidding. They come out for a quick bite of flakes then go back to hidding.
